One page summary of NASORLO position on LWCF funding and Re-authorization for 2017

NASORLO encourages Congress to continue the federal investment in the LWCF State Assistance Program – a state and local partnership  creating parks close to home.  A key purpose of the LWCF Act was to help preserve, develop, and assure access to outdoor recreation facilities to provide recreation and strengthen the health of U.S. citizens in close to home venues.

We urge Congress to make greater investments in states and local communities by:

Appropriating a minimum of $110M for the State Assistance Program in FY 2018.

  • If overall allocations for LWCF are increased above FY17 levels, no less than 40 percent of FY18 LWCF appropriations should be directed to the State Assistance Program.
  • Continue the innovative, “Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership” (ORLP) competitive grant program in FY 18 at $12 million.

State Assistance LWCF Successes & Impact

Stateside LWCF has for 50+years assisted states and communities in putting outdoor recreation where you and your constituents live.

LWCF is a tested and successful partnership – $7B LWCF combined equal state and local dollars – have created over 46,000 park projects.

Nearly every county has been impacted with LWCF State Assistance help. What sets LWCF apart is it offers everyone outdoor recreation to discover in their city, their town, their county and your district.

LWCF parks have been instrumental in the revitalization of cities, improved health and quality of life, fostered physical activity, contributed to consumer and tourism spending, and created American jobs.

Parks backed by LWCF are forever places. They are here now and always as the LWCF Act requires park protection into the future.

What’s at Stake

NASORLO is a key advocate for the continuation and reauthorization of LWCF. Currently authorized to September 2018.   We support:

  • an equal share of LWCF appropriations for the State Assistance Program;
  • full and dedicated funding for LWCF and permanent reauthorization; and
  • continuing to make outdoor recreation accessible to you, your family and friends in your city, your town, your county, your district.
  • actions to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the state outdoor recreation grants program at the state and local level
