Science Daily notes P&R facility access fights obesity

In an issue of Science Dailey newsletter,  a Oregon research project is presented that indicates, ” One way to help address the epidemic of obesity in the United States is improve access to pleasant hiking trails and an ambitious parks and recreation programs.. “ This study cites on example in West Virginia where a community with high obesity rates and limited access to recreation facilities noted that 25 % of people using a new trail had previously been sedentary.  They conclude the article by stating that ” state and local policy makers who are dealing with competing budgetary demands ot become more informed about the health benefits of outdoor recreartional opportunities and consider them in their allocations of scarce resources.. ”   Science Daily ( Jan. 15, 2010 )
