50th Anniversary LWCF Commerative Cooperative Proposed !!

50th Anniversary LWCF Commemorative Cooperative Proposal

SORP, in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association, National Association of State Park Directors, National Association of State Outdoor Recreation Liaison Officers, Tread Lightly, and the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials, has signed a joint letter to the Secretary of the Interior.  We propose that the Department of the Interior establish the “50th Anniversary LWCF Commemorative Cooperative” (committee) comprised of DOI staff as well as representatives from outside organizations.

The objective and purpose of the committee would be as follows:

1.  To increase awareness, alignment, collaboration and effectiveness for the numerous 50th LWCF anniversary commemorative efforts that will take place across the Nation in the next two years and to determine what assistance outside organizations may be able to lend DOI in carrying out those efforts;

2.  To collaborate on means to educate our citizens of the wellness benefits gained from outdoor recreation, and to increase active participation and civic engagement in recreation and resource conservation;

3.  To begin a discussion about ways in which the LWCF could be strengthened to meet the outdoor recreation needs of Americans for another 50 years.
