2020 NASORLO LWCF Modernization Committee Summary

Some have asked the current members of the NASORLO LWCF Modernization Committee and what does the Committee do.  Here is a response from Doug Beck, Chair ME.

  • Who is on the modernization committee and what is the purpose?
    • The modernization committee is made up of members of the National Association of State Outdoor Recreation Liaison Officers interested in improving the relationship between states and the National Parks Service toward more equitable management of the Land and Water Conservation Fund state side program.
  • What is the timeline for the modernization committee’s work?
    • The timeline for this work is limited by the capacity of both NPS and states to address and resolve program related issues.   We have several initiatives that are currently on the negotiating table related to administrative support, boundaries, and so on, but the list goes well beyond what can be accomplished on the near horizon.  In that sense, while we have a prioritized list of items to address, given that this program is forever, it is to be expected that this effort will be ongoing, ever striving to make the working relationship and management of the program more effective and accountable.
